TuneUp Utilities 2010
Ciaran Moore - April 28, 2010TuneUp Utilities 2010 is the latest utility software by TuneUp Software GmbH. TuneUp utility is an integration of different utility programs available in the market today like disk defragmenter, disk error checking, registry and disk cleaner, and startup configuration to create a much more robust application. Having TuneUp Utilities 2010 installed on your computer will save you the time and hard disk space from downloading and installing individual utility for different functions just to serve your purpose.
The first time I ran the application, I noticed that my computer slowed down a little bit and the program took about 30 seconds to load. But that experience only happened to me once and now I’m on my 10th day of my 30 days trial period. TuneUp Utilities run smoothly, not causing any trouble to the other programs installed, and more importantly it helped me a lot in optimizing my hard disk space and speeding up my computer’s performance.
There are a lot of features in TuneUp Utilities 2010 that are worth mentioning. First is its user interface. The program possesses a very clean, organized and informative graphical user interface. Menus on the upper right of the screen, main features on the center (also grouped as dropdown menu items with relevant icon images), and basic information in a form of slideshow presentation on the bottom made the interface of TuneUp Utilities very user-friendly.
Main functions of the program are classified into four groups. The “maintain system” group contains the basic tools for maintenance like disk defragmenter, registry cleaner and defragmenter. Defragmenting a hard drive is very fast compared to other defragmenting tools. Also no minimum percentage of free space required to run effectively unlike disk defragmenter tools included in Windows operating system. Another unique function of TuneUp utilities is the “optimize system startup” in which the program will analyze your startup programs and recommend actions to increase system performance (though it’s up to you to accept or decline the recommendation). But the best maintenance feature TuneUp utilities has to offer to users is the 1-click Maintenance function. All you have to do is click that option and the program will run the maintenance of your computer.
The “Increase performance” section includes tools like configure system startup, and display and uninstall programs. The display and uninstall program provides you the lists of programs installed in your computer just like your control panel. But what makes this tool unique from control panel is that you can organize the way you will view the programs (by file size, the time it was installed etc.) using this tool is very helpful especially when you evaluate which among the files you used the most and the least.
With “fix problems” tool, you can check if your hard disk has errors, fix common problems and restore deleted files. The last tool “customize windows” is just an enhancements of your computer display like taskbar and icons.
The only constraint of TuneUp utilities is its license cost of $49.99. Since majority of the tools that TuneUp Utilities offers can be found in the majority of free utilities, users might opt to use these freeware than to purchase TuneUp utilities. Maybe the reason why the trial version of the program offers the same features as the license version is to compete with all freeware available. However TuneUp utilities still a good choice for maintenance tool for your computer given its performance and integration of different utilities. Maybe a lesser cost of license could make this software the ultimate utility program in the market.
