RouterPassView 1.48

O. James Samson - September 27, 2013

Most modern routers allow you to backup the configuration of the router into a file, and then restore the configuration from the file when it’s needed. The backup file of the router usually contains important data like your ISP user name/password, the login password of the router, and wireless network keys. If one of these password/keys is lost, but you still have a backup file of your router configuration, RouterPassView might help you to recover your lost password from your router file.

What is it about RouterPassView?

RouterPassView is a lightweight and portable application that recovers lost passwords to router configuration files, as long as there are backups stored on the computer.

It does not require installation: simply drop the executable file somewhere on the hard disk and click it to run. You can also run it on any workstation directly from a USB flash disk or similar storage unit. Another interesting thing about this program is that the Windows registry does not get entry updates, and files are not kept on the hard drive after removing the utility.

It has an interface that is similar to that of Windows with a plain and simple layout, where you can open the router configuration file using the file browser or drag-and-drop support. The list shows the item type, password, user name, and server.

It is also possible to grab passwords from Internet Explorer windows, open the router web interface, use a search function when dealing with large amounts of data, copy all items or only selected ones to the Clipboard, as well as toggle between table and text mode (ASCII or hexadecimal).

Nirsoft, the publisher of this program, added this new feature to this program: Added RouterWeb command-line option, which opens the Web interface of the router in the default Web browser.
