Disk space manager 2.1.24
Tilgore Kraut - December 8, 2008Modern hard drives are tens and hundreds of gigabytes of disk space size. The huge nonflexible system is practically impossible to supervise manually.
Pros: The application provides disk space management functions. It has a very convenient interface created in the form of four interconnected windows. You could choose a directory for analysis or the entire disk. What you are presented with is a categorized list of structured file/folder view of the disk content. Graphics visualization window presents you a graphic representation. Colors and back ground can be customized by the user. Due to the simple interface it is equally easy for the beginner or an experienced user to use the application and be productive quickly. You can analyze data based of file sizes, data modified and so on.
Since the application is able to present details data content information and structure information it lets you an opportunity to get the structure cleaned up. For example you may have several media files that contain audio/video, photos and other stuff distributed all over the space. But once you are able to see clearly what is stored at what locations; you could easily merge, reorganize aggregate things together to optimize the organization. The biggest benefit to that being you are able to find these now fairly easily, when needed. You are also able to locate an image file inside a music file for example or any other such misfiling that can happen when the storage becomes so huge as it is today. There’s a top 100 feature for folder, files and extensions that finds the largest such elements. This too can help in locating files/folders of specific extensions.
The usage and structural stats can be saved in HTML, SCV or TXT format and saved as a file for ready reference any time.
Cons: The scan of the drives was quite slow. In this age of drives that could easily be 250 GB or even 1 TB the scan needs to be faster. One redeeming feature is this is an one time action.
