X-Fonter – Gives You The Special Touch

Thursday, September 27th, 2007

1011855349-1.jpgWhether you are a webpage designer or you just want to make a custom birthday card, X-Fonter can add that special touch. All word processors come with some sort of standard fonts, but after years and years of the same boring letters, you might just want to add something a little fancier or a little more fun.

X-Fonter 6.2 is the latest in new font technology. This program allows you to view, manage, and create your own fonts in both two-dimensions and three-dimensions. Among the additions and fixes made to the latest version are the ability to store your favorite fonts in special easy-access folders, and repairs to the ‘Select All’ function.

Overall, if you are looking for a creative way to spice up your typing, X-Fonter has a lot to offer, and it comes at the low price of only $35. Of course, there are tons of fonts to be downloaded off the internet as well, but the risk of downloading a virus is much greater with free downloads than real programs.

Process Tamer

Monday, September 24th, 2007

With so much going on at one time, it is hard to resist having multiple windows open on your desktop, plus all of the underlying CPU usage that is normally going on. For this reason, many people deal with overloading their computers, and have to settle for slowing down a bit and letting their computer work at a slower pace. In a fast-paced world this can be greatly annoying. Hence, the creation of a program that can monitor your CPU usage and prioritize those programs that are using too many CPUs and allow the other programs to work at a similar rate.

Process Tamer is a widely popular program because it takes complete control of all of your active tasks and manages them to make your computer a more efficient machine. If one program is moving too fast, Process Tamer will slow it down and let the others catch up. This way you are at a much lower risk of overloading your computer, which will ultimately save you time, money, and a few headaches.

Probably the best part of this program is that it is completely free and still it does exactly what it is intended to do. Unfortunately it is designed for newer operating systems, which is basically anything after 2000.

Toolbar Uninstaller

Sunday, September 23rd, 2007

toolbarkiller.jpgThese days, everybody and their brother has their own special toolbar, and they take the opportunity to automatically install these toolbars on your computer whenever you install a new program. Unfortunately, this can lead to you opening your browser window only to find six different toolbars and only a half screen to actually see the internet.

Of course, you can always select which toolbars you wish to show and which ones you don’t want to show, but this doesn’t necessarily mean that they are uninstalled. The toolbar is still on your computer, it is just invisible now.

The newest version of Toolbar Uninstaller is here to help you get rid of all those useless toolbars so you can actually see what you’re trying to find on the internet instead of having to scroll up and down because there isn’t enough room on your screen. This program is designed to automatically detect all of the toolbars that have been installed on your computer and bring them to your attention. From there, you can keep the ones you want and delete the others through the uninstaller.

This new version of Toolbar Uninstaller also has some updates since the previous version was released. Some of these updates include fixes to the error codes, changes to the update list, and fixing a minor glitch in the captioning system.

All of these fixes have definitely made the new Toolbar Uninstaller a great way to get rid of all the extra junk on your browser window and make it easier for you to find what you are looking for.

Gmail Notifier for Windows 1.0.25.0

Thursday, September 20th, 2007

notifier.jpgWhile many people have the gmail e-mail client as their primary mode of accessing e-mail, at the same time there are many people that don’t like it because of the lack of an easy way of knowing whether or not you have mail. If you use a device like MSN or Yahoo, then even if you don’t have an e-mail client running in the background you can still get information about e-mails that you get because of the alerts that pop up whenever an e-mail is received. The same thing happens in gtalk, but that software is as of yet not as popular in terms of market share as gmail has become relative to Microsoft and Yahoo products.

Therefore, the need for a program like the Gmail Notifier is quite obvious and the fact that this program is free is also something that should pique the interest of a lot of different people. The main point of this program is to sit in your system tray and display an icon whenever you receive a new e-mail message in your gmail account. Of course, like most other e-mail programs it does not differentiate between new and unread, so if you have an unread piece of junk e-mail that made it into your inbox a couple of weeks back, you might see that icon even if you don’t have any new e-mail.

Another drawback of this program is that there has been no update offered for it for more than two years, but the current version of 1.0.25.0 is basically functional and will do the job of letting you know about new e-mails quite well.

Zoommy 5.3

Friday, September 14th, 2007

screen_full.jpgZoommy is the software is for magnifying anything that is present on the desktop or anywhere else. It is also of much use for the partially visually impaired people using PC for their work. You can use it for having the information about the various aspects of the images.

The software gets quickly downloaded and installed. It opened up with a small rectangular screen on the right bottom of the desktop. Making the software active wherever you take the mouse the screen below shows the magnified form of the area. It has the zooming option from -4 x to 30 x that you can see the minor parts also. When you take the mouse to a place the blue information panel appears on the lens screen. It shows the Zoommy lens pixel size, the axis information, the RGB level of that particular area, HEX, etc. You need not to open the properties of the images. You can know the image properties of your desktop wallpaper and almost everything. It stays at your system tray and contains the right options. When you come back to the lens area then the lens disappears and the screen shows the options. You can zoom in and out whenever you want, have the measurements and also can slow down the mouse. Hide or show the lens; change the lens width and height; and show border and pointer position. Set the color mode, brightness, contrast and you can make it transparent through the given levels. Select the measure unit to be pixel, inches, percent, etc. You can choose the info to be shown on the blue panel and select the new profiles or delete one. Clicking on Options a dialog box appears showing different options. Set the general options relating windows, select image copying and saving options, etc. Set the color, transparency, etc; and select the hotkeys, language and info options. You can even take the screen shots of any area and save it as an image file.

The software is a good utility for design professionals and for the people who are visually impaired. The downside point of the software is that it does not have any help guide and needs internet access for any help. Overall we will still give it an appreciable 4 star rating because it performs exceedingly well.

IceAmpTitle 2.8.0.0

Monday, September 10th, 2007

948916945-1.jpgOne of the reasons that software has become so popular in today’s world is because different pieces of software can do very specialized things. The perfect example of this is the IceAmpTitle 2.8.0.0. This is a piece of software designed to do one thing and one thing only, but it is able to do that one thing in a fantastic way.

The basic idea behind the IceAmpTitle 2.8.0.0 is to get the name of the song that your music player is currently playing and display it in a window on your desktop. The positioning of the window can be changed as can a number of other aesthetic things such as the font size and colour. There are a lot of customizable things to the software package and the final result, but the main point is that you can get the software to retrieve the name of the current song and unobtrusively display it in your desktop so that you don’t have to waste your time pulling up the music player in order to find the song name and artist name.

It currently works for the WinAmp, Sonique, K-Jofol, FreeAmp and Coolplayer audio players and it is expected that more will be following.

jv16 powertools – The all-in-one pc toolkit

Thursday, September 6th, 2007

http://www.macecraft.com/images/pt2007/icons/directoryfinder.png

jv16 powertools is an all in one program containing various tools and utilities for your computer. It contains a registry cleaner, file wiper, duplicate file finder and lots more.

The main reason I was trying it out was because the registry cleaner seems to be different from any I’ve ever tried in the past. Apparently it has “Stateful registry cleaning” which is different from most registry cleaners and you can read more on that on this page here.

The numerous other utilities may be useful at times but the interface can be a little confusing, so i wouldn’t recommend this software for those who aren’t too knowledgeable about the inner workings of their pc. But if you’re computer savvy and looking for an all in one solution to some common computer tasks,it’s definitely worth checking out, as long as you know what you’re doing.

CSE HTML Validator Lite

Wednesday, September 5th, 2007

957500516-2.pngWhen you take a look at all of the different coding languages used in internet development today, you can see that there are quite a few indeed.   If you ever want to be good at web development, it goes beyond learning HTML nowadays.  You need to know XML, XHTML, CSS, SQL, PHP, ASP and a number of other programming languages.   With new languages emerging all the time you are going to find it becoming harder and harder to keep knowledge of all of the tags from all of the languages in your head at once.

Therefore, software is necessary.  Even if you don’t want to work in a web development program like Dreamweaver or FrontPage, you should still use software to check your code.   Programming different parts of code for hours on end is going to make anyone make the odd mistake here and there, so you want to be absolutely sure that anything you take a look at also gets looked at by an impartial set of eyes.   The CSE HTML Validator Lite 8.0130 is something that you definitely something you want to look at because it is exactly that; an impartial pair of eyes.   It will tell you how good your code is and whether or not there are any mistakes present.  It will also show you the line numbers of those mistakes and that information alone is priceless in allowing you to design your dream website.

Tiny Hexer Medium Edition

Tuesday, September 4th, 2007

1111703686-3.jpgTiny Hexer has been one of the most popular free hex editors because of all of the functionality that it has.  When you are using Tiny Hexer, you can do almost anything you’d like to a binary file. You can edit multiple files in .mdi format to your heart’s content with the software as well as use it to take a look at sectors of any data medium that you can think of (hard drive, disk drives and many others). You can even use the Tiny Hexer to change information regarding the virtual memory of processes activated on your system.

In addition to all of that great functionality, Tiny Hexer as a piece of software was also something that was scriptable as well as something that could be used to view plugin data structures in browsers. However, there are a number of people that use the Tiny Hexer software that don’t need any of the functionality provided by either the scripting or the plugin options and therefore these people can benefit from the use of the Tiny Hexer Medium Edition software.   It has all of the editing abilities that users of the original Tiny Hexer will expect, but without any of the scripting or plugin support for a leaner piece of software.

Kruptos 2 – Freeware encryption for your sensitive files.

Friday, August 31st, 2007

krypto.jpgkruptos 2 is a powerful freeware application that enables you to encrypt your sensitive data. It uses 128 bit blowfish encryption to encrypt your files or folders which then can only be accessed with the correct password, so that only you can have access to them. You can even select to disguise the newly encrypted files name for further privacy.

One thing it could be used for is USB flash drives and portable storage devices, ensuring that no one can access your private or sensitive data if the drive is lost or stolen. It can also create self decrypting files and includes a file shredding utility.

Check it out at the website here.
