I have tried several versions of this software and it’s not really worth the money. Not because it’s not a good, well-written program (it is), but because it lacks a few important features that can actually be found in FREE programs!
For one, there are no customizable fields that a user can use to track specialized information. For example, I have a rating system I use to determine, among other things, how suitable a particular movie might be for children. There is no field I can use for this.
Second, I have a numbering system for my DVD collection, and since it’s alpha-numeric, I need a field to enter these values, and there are none. Several free or much less expensive programs have anywhere from four to as many as ten fields that the user can customize and use however they please.
Third, there are limits to what columns you can display in the main grid, and I don’t know of ANY other program I have tried that has this limitation.
Fourth, the amount of information it downloads for a movie is rather skimpy compared to other programs.
I have contacted the publisher two or three times and asked if they might consider adding these features, and the response has always been rather vague, but the features haven’t been added. Add to all this the fact that Movie Label costs almost fifty dollars (USD), which is ten dollars more than most programs of this type, and there are, as I said, less expensive and even free programs that do have these and more deatures, and Movie Label, though it looks very slick, just isn’t worth the premium price. I would have bought it long ago if it had had just three small, easy-to-implement features and could grab more movie info.
