Scribus for Windows 1.4.0 RC2

O. James Samson - March 17, 2011

Scribus is an open-source application that brings award-winning professional page layout to MacOS X, Linux/Unix, OS/2 and Windows desktops. This is done with a combination of “press-ready” output and new approaches to page layout. Scribus also supports professional publishing features, such as CMYK color, separations, ICC color management and versatile PDF creation. The publishers have been improving on this program since the first time it was released a couple of years back. A lot of features and updates have been made since then, and that is why it remains one of the most sought-after programs around.

Scribus has a lot of very useful features that include; powerful vector drawing tools, support for a huge various file types via import/export filters, emulation of color blindness or the rendering of markup languages like LaTeX or Lilypond inside Scribus, and a few others. Scribus file format is XML-based and open. Unlike proprietary binary file formats, even damaged documents can be recovered with a simple text editor – sometimes a challenging problem with other page layout programs. Today, Scribus has been translated into more than 25 different languages; this means more people can download and benefit from this open source program. This version runs on Windows 2000 and Windows XP operating systems.
