This is one good IM. I never thought I could design my images, pictures and graphics and communicate with those on IMs. It’s just easy to use.

The widow doesn’t command so much in terms of beauty, just like Microsoft paint. But it works well for me and it’s quite reliable.

I should give the company thumbs-up for this ingenious creation. Its properties are also one to get acquainted with. It is also Multi-lingual and internationalized. I like it and I am sure you will.

The Journal 4.1

Thursday, March 6th, 2008

The Journal provides an easy-to-use mix of convenience, flexibility, and security to write, organize, remember, find things from a journal, whatever may be the journaling and writing needs.

Pros: The Journal application makes it easy to keep a daily journal, for both personal and professional use. Writing about thoughts and dreams or work notes and ideas or simply planning notes and decision details this application lets the user write & keep notes about just about anything. The Journal provides an easy-to-use mix of convenience, flexibility, and security.

One can create as many entries as he feels like. Dates get updated, then it is up to the user to add entries, sub entries or loose leaf entries as needed. Categorize the entries to completely custom categories, create them as you go. Helps search them later. Besides text, images could be added to the entries along with date, time, timer count or even a calendar charm. Calendar charms are small graphic icons to liven things up a little bit. The journal can sit in the system tray, always ready, always available and can be totally secure by password protection and encryption.

The interface is an augmented Word like interface. The interface additionally shows the hierarchical structure of the notes, the current calendar and a timer at option if needed. The timer could be set to be a count down one or a stop watch to indicate total elapsed time. These can be helpful with time based work. .Main work area is a tabbed area that shows, besides the journal work area, a notebook, templates, an address book etc. Reminder setting services are available for tasks set up, important dates and such items.

Cons: Notes, tasks and address book functionality are features available with Outlook too. So their duplication here could be questioned. In particularly since you have to maintain an address book anyway with the mail application anyway. But then viewed as an application that is open on the desktop all the time, these do have a place in the journal too.

PrettyMay Call Center for Skype 2.5.0.18

Monday, December 10th, 2007

The application adds management of multiple lines (as in a PBX), Interactive voice response (IVR) , auto attendant and voice mail facilities to Skype phone facility.

Pros: The facilities provided combine the features of a fairly sophisticated private branch exchange with auto attendant and individual customized voice mail solution. Additionally it also has IVR solution. Call transfers between extensions and call recording is possible. It can handle up to 30 lines and thus is a solution that fits a small or a medium business quite well. Inbound calls and outbound call flows can be defined easily to configure this as a complete inbound/outbound or a mixed one. Skill based routing of calls to operators make routing of calls to appropriate operators.

Inbound call flow can be totally customized depending on the requirements of the organization. That includes the greetings and the sequence as well as actual options to be available to the caller. A visual call flow menu builder helps build these facilities.

Being a software solution it communicates with user PC’s through their sound cards, only. A range of records are maintained and reports provided. These cover line management, inbound calls management, call records management and historical data.

Cons: When used as a PBX solution for a small or a medium business, support for the crop of VoIP phones available in the market would be a good feature as not everyone in the organization in need for phone communication needs to have a PC.

A second issue that can have a major impact on the performance of the complete system is the power of main machine on which the software runs. Since the whole thing has to be real time, a high performance machine which handles the PABX and IVR facilities has to be used. This would be a very critical factor when configured as a call center solution.

Overall: Performance is a big factor in business use, particularly as a call center application. How well things will work is difficult to predict. Other than that this application is fairly well designed and reasonably easy to use.

Vidoop – Goodbye passwords?

Thursday, November 1st, 2007

At a first glance of the name, you’d be forgiven for guessing that this site had something to do with videos. It doesn’t. Vidoop is an online service that aims to let you log in to multiple sites without having to remember a password for each one. The difference between this and other password managers is how this is implemented.

Once you make a free account at Vidoop, (and install the optional firefox add-on), you will be given a selection of pictures with corresponding letters each time you want to log in to a website. You then type the corresponding letters to the pictures that match the topics you have previously chosen such as dog, flower, food, etc.

This aims to eliminate the need to remember passwords in a more secure way than conventional methods such as having your browser remember it for you or using password managers.

It’s certainly a unique idea but only time will tell if its a good one or not! Check it out for yourself here.

Xfire – Instant messenger for gamers

Thursday, October 18th, 2007

There are so many new instant messaging programs out there today that it is sometimes difficult to see where one program ends and another begins in terms of features. Well, the Xfire 1.82 software is quite different from that simply for the reason that it is quite different from all other instant messenger programs that currently exist. It is not different in the sense that it costs money (it is freeware just like all of the other instant messaging programs), but at the same time it is different because of area of specialty that it happens to cover.

The Xfire program, as many people are now already aware, is an instant messenger for gamers. If your friends happen to be playing games online, then you can find out which games they are playing and where they are playing them. If your friends are playing a specific game at a specific location, you will be able to know that from their Xfire status. You can even join the game that they are playing at that very moment just through a single click of your mouse.   Truly, it is an excellent and pioneering program that allows gamers to enhance their gaming situation to the max.  It even allows them to receive instant messages without interrupting their game play.

NCN Messenger – a reliable messaging program

Monday, October 15th, 2007

There are a number of messaging programs in the world today and therefore it would be quite reasonably for someone to wonder why a new one would be worth anything different from any of the previous ones.   Well, NCN Messenger first of all is not a personal messaging program but rather is an internal messaging program that people can use for schools, workplaces and other group-orientated places where internal messaging might be necessary at certain times.   In this sense, it is an excellent program and NCN Messenger has all of the tools that a school or other group could need and also happens to be free; definitely a good deal.

In addition to being a reliable messaging program, NCN is also a program that has two different modes.  The TRUE mode is the mode that people will use most of the time and it is the mode that shows which computer the message actually came from.  If, however, people look for some more security and privacy then they can opt to use the GHOST mode which can actually result in a fake or an anonymous computer signature that is basically impossible to trace.   You can send a message to another computer and they can have no idea where it came from; pretty cool!

Experience The Magic Of Koma-Mail

Monday, October 15th, 2007

One of the things that people love nowadays is their e-mail client. I have an e-mail client and I have to admit that I would not be able to survive without it. The client allows me to collate the information that comes in from multiple e-mail addresses instantaneously and indeed allows me to understand everything that is going on in my world. There are a lot of people that rely on their e-mail client for everything and while these people might not like it, up until recently they have had to put up with the client installing itself on their hard drive and sprawling outwards.

However, Koma-Mail 3.621 allows this to change immensely. You can actually run this program directly from a USB stick or other removable storage piece and therefore you do not have to install it to your hard drive at all. It has all of the functionality of a typical e-mail client and setting it up is an absolute breeze. The latest updates have added more keyboard shortcuts to allow you to accomplish the tasks that you need to finish faster and ultimately the free status of this software package is perhaps the best selling point towards getting you to give it a try.
