TICK – enhance your dial-up experience

Thursday, September 13th, 2007

There are a number of people nowadays that have made the switch to some kind of broadband service for their Internet, but there are at the same time still quite a few people that are interested in the idea of broadband, but either don’t have it in their area or alternatively can’t afford it. Dial-up is a cheaper option and one that is more accessible to the majority of internet users in this world today.  Therefore, enhancement of dial-up is going to be something useful to a large number of people and that perhaps accounts for some of the popularity of the TICK 1.17 software.

The TICK 1.17 software is a free piece of software that does a lot for enhancement of your dial-up experience. Firstly, it will allow you to keep track of all of your sessions of internet browsing so that you can see how long each dial-up call was and ultimately how much that call is going to cost in the context of your current internet service provider. It will also give you information about the amount of data transfer that went back and forth during that call so that you can get an idea of how your efficiency with using the internet changes from day to day or even session to session depending on how many times you use the internet each day.

It is a very useful piece of software about which more information can be found at http://www.reallyeffective.co.uk/tick_index.html

Regmon – Static Registry Monitoring

Tuesday, September 11th, 2007

1101706751-2.gifWhen you look at the plethora of registry monitoring tools that are currently available, regardless of whether they are free or proprietary, what you are going to find is that they ultimately fall into two different categories; static or dynamic. Static registry monitoring devices are the majority product in the market right now and basically what they allow you to do is take a look at the applications that have accessed your registry as well as the changes that they have made to registry values. While this is certainly useful information, there is so much more that could be done and the dynamic Regmon 7.04 is a great example of that.

In addition to the functionality of a static registry program, you also get real time monitoring of all of the applications that are currently accessing your registry. In addition to that, you will also find out the keys they interact with, the data they access as well as any changes that they make; one again in a real-time format. This means that you can sit there with this program and use it to understand exactly what different applications might do to your registry. If you were ever wondering what the programs actually do, you can learn it through just looking at the reports generated by this program.

More information can be found on the publisher’s homepage at http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/SystemInformation/Regmon.mspx

Programmers Notepad

Tuesday, September 11th, 2007

974475747-1.jpgOne of the things that have become very popular in today’s culture is programming.  Almost everywhere you look there are people that have knowledge of at the very least coding and at the very most multiple programming languages both of the object oriented nature and otherwise. It is only natural considering the relative importance that computers have gained in our world that programming would become more important and indeed the release and subsequent popularity of the Programmers Notepad 2.0.7.667 Beta is proof that programming is something that many internet-savvy people have started to learn.

Whether you are new to programming or a seasoned veteran with multiple software pieces under your belt, what you are going to find is that ultimately the Programmers Notepad is going to help you along greatly.   Not only does it separate different aspects of a programming language from each other through colour coding (with a number of different languages already built in as recognizable by the system), but it also allows you to customize that colours to match any colour scheme you might already have in your mind.   Furthermore, the most recent update of this Notepad now includes HTML, PHP and PHP Script so you can quite literally do everything with it.

SWiSH Max – Flash Animation Made Easy

Monday, September 10th, 2007

1087380508-1.gifFlash animation is really going to be a big part of the internet for a time to come, simply because so many people are able to derive so much pleasure out of both the creation and the viewing of flash animations. Everything from political songs to humorous skits to hilarious games have been created in flash format and that is why the ability to create flash animations is such an important one for people to have. Of course, the Macromedia Flash software is horrendously expensive and that is why software like the SWiSH Max 1.0 Build 2006.06.29 is so important.

This piece of software literally has everything you could possibly need in order to make beautiful flash animations. These animations can be made to be completely interactive because you can use the software to make shapes and motion paths, amongst all of the other typical flash features.  One of the interesting aspects of the program is the fact that it has 230 built-in animated effects for you to use and it also has scripting language functionality for people that would like to use it to create exceptionally detailed and complicated flash animations.

jv16 powertools – The all-in-one pc toolkit

Thursday, September 6th, 2007

http://www.macecraft.com/images/pt2007/icons/directoryfinder.png

jv16 powertools is an all in one program containing various tools and utilities for your computer. It contains a registry cleaner, file wiper, duplicate file finder and lots more.

The main reason I was trying it out was because the registry cleaner seems to be different from any I’ve ever tried in the past. Apparently it has “Stateful registry cleaning” which is different from most registry cleaners and you can read more on that on this page here.

The numerous other utilities may be useful at times but the interface can be a little confusing, so i wouldn’t recommend this software for those who aren’t too knowledgeable about the inner workings of their pc. But if you’re computer savvy and looking for an all in one solution to some common computer tasks,it’s definitely worth checking out, as long as you know what you’re doing.

UnMask It!

Wednesday, September 5th, 2007

1013367805-1.gifOne of the things that people that have used computers for a long time are aware of is how annoying it can be to retrieve passwords that you have lost. While many websites are now coming to their senses and using e-mail retrieval systems, at the same time many are not and therefore it can be difficult to figure out if the stuff behind the asterisks is actually the stuff that you want.

Well, not you can use this handy dandy piece of software to make sure that you can figure out exactly what is beyond the asterisks in a password field. It has an extremely easy to use interface and extremely easy instructions to go along with them. If you want to use it to find out what a set of asterisks really stands for, then you can click and drag the icon to the password and then release to find out what the password actually is. It will retrieve the password from any password field.

This is a handy piece of software because it allows you to figure out what something is, even after you’ve already forgotten. More information can be found on the publisher’s homepage.

IconLab – a powerful free icon editor

Wednesday, September 5th, 2007

1118615094-1.gifIcons are one of the staple items of today’s world.  It has even gotten to the point where to the left of the URL in most modern browsers, you can actually see an icon that represents the website you are visiting. It is really quite remarkable if you think about it, since icons were nowhere to be found just a few years ago.  However, web design of any serious nature requires the need for icon creation and that of course requires the need of specialized software specifically designed to handle the editing difficulties of smaller icons.

Enter the IconLab 1.0. Often described as being one of the most powerful free icon editors out there, it is actually a small program when all is said and done. The size belies the strength in this case however as it allows you to change icons in many different ways and supports formats up to 32-bit.  You can even change the file types of different icons and of course in addition to that you can edit them in any way that you deem necessary. All of the typical drawing effects are available.

CSE HTML Validator Lite

Wednesday, September 5th, 2007

957500516-2.pngWhen you take a look at all of the different coding languages used in internet development today, you can see that there are quite a few indeed.   If you ever want to be good at web development, it goes beyond learning HTML nowadays.  You need to know XML, XHTML, CSS, SQL, PHP, ASP and a number of other programming languages.   With new languages emerging all the time you are going to find it becoming harder and harder to keep knowledge of all of the tags from all of the languages in your head at once.

Therefore, software is necessary.  Even if you don’t want to work in a web development program like Dreamweaver or FrontPage, you should still use software to check your code.   Programming different parts of code for hours on end is going to make anyone make the odd mistake here and there, so you want to be absolutely sure that anything you take a look at also gets looked at by an impartial set of eyes.   The CSE HTML Validator Lite 8.0130 is something that you definitely something you want to look at because it is exactly that; an impartial pair of eyes.   It will tell you how good your code is and whether or not there are any mistakes present.  It will also show you the line numbers of those mistakes and that information alone is priceless in allowing you to design your dream website.

Tiny Hexer Medium Edition

Tuesday, September 4th, 2007

1111703686-3.jpgTiny Hexer has been one of the most popular free hex editors because of all of the functionality that it has.  When you are using Tiny Hexer, you can do almost anything you’d like to a binary file. You can edit multiple files in .mdi format to your heart’s content with the software as well as use it to take a look at sectors of any data medium that you can think of (hard drive, disk drives and many others). You can even use the Tiny Hexer to change information regarding the virtual memory of processes activated on your system.

In addition to all of that great functionality, Tiny Hexer as a piece of software was also something that was scriptable as well as something that could be used to view plugin data structures in browsers. However, there are a number of people that use the Tiny Hexer software that don’t need any of the functionality provided by either the scripting or the plugin options and therefore these people can benefit from the use of the Tiny Hexer Medium Edition software.   It has all of the editing abilities that users of the original Tiny Hexer will expect, but without any of the scripting or plugin support for a leaner piece of software.
