Adaware: Essential spyware removal

Tuesday, October 24th, 2006

Its estimated that a large percentage of computers are infected with spyware, so its important that you take the necessary precautions to ideally prevent it getting on your computer in the first place, but failing that, it’s necessary to scan your computer and remove any spyware that may have already installed,as many spywares can secretly install themselves on your computer in the background, just by visiting a webpage, without you having to even download or install anything.

Your Uninstaller 2006: Cleaning things up properly!

Tuesday, October 24th, 2006

475478.jpgEven after you uninstall them, many program leave traces behind, which can clutter your computer after a while, slowing it up and even leading to errors. “Your Uninstaller” is an uninstaller program that cleans all that clutter and leftovers off your computer.

You simply uninstall the unwanted program through “Your Uninstaller”, it calls up the unwanted program’s default uninstaller and uninstalls the regular way, and then after that, it works its magic, scanning for leftover files, folders and registry entries that would normally be left behind by many programs if you dont use a third party uninstaller such as this one. Ive been using this for over a year and i highly recommend it for people who like to keep their computer running smoothly and error free and anyone who wants a safe, clean way to try out new programs from sites such as this one your reading now!

Streaming Audio Studio rocks

Tuesday, October 24th, 2006

89037234.jpgStreaming Audio Studio is the complete suite of tools for analyzing, recording, and editing audio. That would be enough to recommend it, if it didn’t also convert audio formats, help you to make loops, and capture and clean up crusty old recordings. It supports the most popular audio formats, the ones you expect like wav, mp3, wma, but some other out of the way ones too like vqf and ogg.

But as the name implies there is more to this software than just a nifty audio editing package. It streams otherwise inaccessible audio streams to disc as MP3 so you can now record all those broadcast shows for later consumption or for use on your MP3 player or iPod.

Echo The Mouse: Cheesy Caper (and cheesy gameplay)

Wednesday, October 18th, 2006

Echo the Mouse is a gentle reminder of the days of gaming when there was a time limit. Back then, the whole point is to make your gaming experience was to make it a brief distraction, not like the games of today where it will totally suck you in until you can’t do anything but to defeat “just one more level”.  (more…)

Record streams with Free Audio Recorder

Wednesday, October 18th, 2006

23241123.jpgFree Audio Recorder is a simple program that enables you to record any sound you can hear on the speakers on your computer. You can record sounds with this program you can’t normally access because they are streamed and not passed through the audio system, but Free Audio Recorder does and it records them onto your hard disc as a file. You can set the recording quality from minimal 11500 up to 44100 CD quality.

There’s really not much to it, it’s a not a do-it-all swiss army knife; it’s just a tiny program which does just one job really well. Plus it’s a pretty much three clicks and you’re out. And you can’t argue with that price. If you need to record streamed radio and make audio CDs or MP3s out of it, then this is the ideal software for the job.

Firefox: Browser with a difference…

Wednesday, October 18th, 2006

7686445.jpgMozilla Firefox is a free, Open Source, cross-platform Browser with features like tabbed browsing, integrated pop-up blocker, built-in customizable search bar, built-in RSS reader, extension manager & many such time saviing features.

You can easily import your favourites from Internet Explorer inside Firefox which is called ‘Bookmarks’ in firefox. It’s a most downloaded freeware application for home users and well acclaimed by many media companies like Wall Street Journal, Forbes etc. Although Microsoft is implementing most of these features in their upcoming Internet Explorer 7 but i have found it slow compared to Firefox. Spreadfirefox.com Statistics says that Firefox had 200 million downloads in August 2006. And there are many extensions available which can further enhance your browsing experience. (more…)

The Spyware Doctor is IN…

Tuesday, October 17th, 2006

5456547.jpgSpyware Doctor is one of those untils which you either love or you hate. It’s doing a necessary job; all PCs suffer from malware of some kind almost all the time, it’s just a case of how badly it affects performance. The only way to be totally free of it is to scan regularly OR you can have a program do it for you.

Spyware Doctor is one of the auto scanners, and it nips infection with spyware (also adware, Trojan horses, keyloggers, spyware cookies, adbots, spybots, browser hijackers, phishing attacks) and other malware in the bud, live, instantly and as it happens.

It does cost $29.95 to buy once the trial has finished, but it does provide you with very clean machines, and if you run a few of them then some kind of automatic spyware solution might be the only answer. Spyware Doctor is fast, efficient, clearly laid out and does the job beautifully.

Make your DVDs with Video DVD Maker FREE

Monday, October 16th, 2006

5675854.jpgIf you have a need to make a DVD, then you need a DVD maker. Not many applications, even DVD burning programs, have the ability to make (or author) a DVD. Normally you have to use custom DVD authoring software, and while software such as this is coming down in price, it is still not very widespread or cheap. Video DVD Maker FREE is in fact free, so in that sense the price is definitely attractive.

The program lets you capture video from video sources, like TV tuners, webcams, DV cameras, and also import video files from Microsoft AVI, DIVX, XVID, MP4, MPG, Windows Media WMV, ASF, and Quicktime MOV.

This is a great utility and does this one job really well. Obviously it’s designed to make you want to upgrade to the Pro version, which you can for a price, but if you want to you can just use the Free version for ever. This is a much better idea than time limited versions of software; give out a cut-down special edition and a Pro version, and charge only for the Pro version.

Easy Divx to DVD, does exactly what it says on the tin

Monday, October 16th, 2006

56754456.jpgEasy Divx to DVD takes Divx movies off your hard disk and turns them into DVDs, it burns them right to disc right out of the program. It will also convert them to a disc image so you can burn the films to disc later with another program. You can convert Avi, Div, DivX, and XVid into DVD automatically. It supports NTSC and PAL, 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratios, plus you can add letterbox to keep the original aspect ratio on a 4:3 screen.

Obviously there are many different applications for a program like this, ahem, but the main one is of course burning movies and videos you get over the Internet onto DVD. Of course some of the files that people download as Divx are illegal copies of commercial movies, and of course one can’t publically endorse that, but obviously these things happen. And if they DO happen, then this software is the way that you burn the movies to disc.

The program supports Vista and XP and is a shareware program which you can register for $24.95. Get the download from here.

Good Vs Evil: orange ball of clay saves the day

Monday, October 16th, 2006

GvsE 3 is a game from Jonathan Smelby, who is the apparent founder of Jonny Comics, Inc. who I assume has made GvsE 1 and 2. The title actually stands for Good Versus Evil, which makes it sound like a great, fantastic epic on the level of Star Wars

Well, it’s not. However, it is an excellent parody and full of fun. You can tell from the intro: “It seems like only yesterday. In fact, it was yesterday.” You play Buddy McCraken, a little orange ball of clay who has hands and feet, yet no arms or legs. From the information that I learned in the cutscenes, Buddy works for Mission Control, and has to stop the evil Dr. Ampere in his fortified fortress. Dr. Ampere has this gigantic ray that he will use to destroy the moon in about six hours or so. It’s kind of like the reverse of Dr. Evil’s plot in Austin Powers 2. Why he wants to destroy the moon is beyond me.
