Mazefrenzy: Just how patient are you?

Sunday, December 10th, 2006

logo.gifMazefrenzy is one of those online games that’s sure to drive you crazy, yet you just cant help trying again!

The object of the game is to move a small red dot through a maze, without touching the sides, kinda like a variation on wire loop games. The repetitive music doesnt help you out much, but luckily theres an option to click to mute it.

Tip: It may be easier using a touchpad instead of a mouse, or vice versa, depending on how they respond and how steady those hands of yours are! Also muting the music will definitely help! And not trying to do it all at once!

Check it out for yourself here!

Good luck and if anyone actually makes it through the first maze let me know because as of now i am about to give up! well, maybe just one more go…

1026937316-1.jpgMovie buffs, you are going to love this! eXtreme Movie Manager is a great software to manage your movie collection. The facts that it lets you catalog any video formats such as DivX, XviD, DVD, VHS, SVHS, VCD, DVD-R, or LaserDisc with detailed information makes it a must have for all movie buffs.

And it is not just a movie/video collection manager, it’s also a movie and actor database and a cover manager. Arguably one of the most advanced Movies/Actors collection manager around. It can catalog movies stored in your Hard Disk and removable devices in seconds with all information about codecs, resolutions etc. automatically. And what I really love about it is that, with the exclusive “MagicScript” Technology, it allows you to retrieve movie information from all online movie databases.

The latest version just released of Dec 7 2006, eXtreme Movie Manager 5.6.2.0 has great changes that makes this software really cool. Here are some of the changes

  • Now you can export also TV Shows
  • Changed the Startup procedure
  • Extended the Cover Manager also to TVShow, Episodes and Actors
  • Now you can paste cover from clipboard also in cover manager
  • Extended the Feature Field in Edit Window
  • The Cover Manager now remember the position and size
  • Changed some language definitions
  • Added alt-e keystroke to open edit window
  • Updated MagicScript Programmer’s guide with Block’s List

etc.

The only downside to this software is the User Interface, it could take a while for you to get the hang of it but once you do, you are going to love it, THAT’S A PROMISE! Try it!

Pac-Xon: New twist on an old classic!

Thursday, December 7th, 2006

45678909876545.jpgPac-Xon is a flash game based on the classic Pac-Man games of long long ago. The big difference is that they took that and turned it into an original game that’s totally different.

The object of the game is to build walls that enclose and fill empty space, while avoiding the ghosts touching off the wall you’re trying to make. As soon as you fill at least 75% empty space, you go to the next level. There’s power-ups occasionally to move faster, make the ghosts move slower or freeze, and of course, eat the ghosts!

This one is just as addictive in the same way as the original Pac-Man was though, so if you have some time to kill its worth checking out for a few minutes at least, although you might very well find yourself suffering from “Just one more go” syndrome! Reminds me of the old quote that “If Pac-Man had affected us as kids, we’d all be running around in a darkened room munching pills and listening to repetitive music!” Hmmm!

You can check it out right here if you want a refreshing take on a classic game!

PostSmile – put a smile on your post

Thursday, December 7th, 2006

1073721699-1.gifWith PostSmile sending emails and posting on message boards gets to be fun. You can Drag and Drop images and animations, smiles and emoticons, text or HTML snippets, quotes and signatures into your email, message board or web-forum postings.

One thing I appreciate about this program is that the smiley faces are divided into clear categories – Happy, Love, Sad, Communication, Other, Signatures, Famous Quotes, Love Quotes, Proverbs, Jokes and Compliments. PostSmile offers a wide variety of smiley faces but that’s not all, hundreds and hundreds of great emoticons are available in the PostSmile’s Online Collections Gallery. It also works well with all major email programs.

Like me you may be having an issue with the price. You may find it difficult to comprehend why you should part with $24.95 for smiley faces. Well they are offering a 25% Christmas discount presently, so it only goes for $18.71 for now. If you are still having an issue with the price, check out the trial version. But you need to note that you’ll only get limited smileys with the trial version , to get access to hundreds of emoticons , you’ll have to buy the full version.

Open the Dore to ADHD

Thursday, December 7th, 2006

ADHD and it’s close relatives, Asperger’s Syndrome, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia and Dycalculia, are a spectrum of neurological conditions that have many thousands of sufferers. Most treatments are either about living with the disorders, or damping them down with drugs, so not ideal.

Dore’s original approach is one based on the latest research on how physical exercises and therapy encourages development of the areas of the brain responsible for these syndromes. The treatment is expensive, around £2,000 ($4,000) in most cases. For FREE however you can take tests online to see if there’s a good chance that you suffer from these complaints and if the courses Dore offers from it’s worldwide centers would benefit you.

Deskloops: Loop your desktop!

Wednesday, December 6th, 2006

2678908765432345690.jpgDeskloops is a program to help you navigate through your open windows easier. It creates a loop of all your windows which you can scroll through by going left or right. Alternatively you can go to the top of the screen and scroll through thumbnails of your windows.

Its much easier to watch it in action than it is to describe it, so check out the first video here entitled “Getting started” and you’ll understand clearer!

It’s a pretty well made program and the navigation system is pretty simple and uncluttered and gets the job done. Although i think nowadays many people will just stick to tabs. But for anyone who doesn’t use tabs, its worth checking out. Also the optional 3D effect feature looks pretty cool, but may get in the way after a while.

I’d recommend checking this out to anyone who finds themselves with a lot of windows open frequently and who doesn’t already use tabs!

You can download it here and read more info and watch some video demos/tutorials. Oh and its free!

Jonathan Coulton Rocks

Wednesday, December 6th, 2006

You may not have heard of Jonathan Coulton, but I promise you will hear about this guy sooner or later. He has a cult following on the Internet, and has gathered a lot of praise for his tour with author and cult public speaker John Hodgman. Coulton makes smart, funny music and does so in a bewildering array of styles.

You can hear his music and buy CDs and individual tracks from the official web site, but some of the tracks are free, the ones with the smileys. Also you might try out his podcast on iTunes, A Thing A Week, which ran for 52 weeks and 52 songs. Total musical genius.

Science fiction author reads himself

Wednesday, December 6th, 2006

darknet.jpgPodcasts are a good source of information and entertainment. While most take the form of talk radio or music shows, the audiobook is on the rise, although these are mostly amateur affairs. But slowly there are professional writers creeping into the market.

Hugo award winner James Patrick Kelly is podcasting his “On the Net” columns from the popular Asimov’s Science Fiction Magazines. In these columns, Kelly talks about time travel, faster than light engines etc, all the usual fare of popular science fiction.

The most recent episode was about copyright, science fiction, DRM, and the future of the Internet. Fascinating stuff. Subscribe to the show by following this LINK.

BallDroppings anyone?

Wednesday, December 6th, 2006

artbanner.jpgBallDroppings is a free downloadable game. The object of the game is to.,.well, there isn’t any really.

Balls drop down from the top left corner of the screen and you’re able to draw lines with the mouse that they then bounce against. When they bounce they make a sound, depending on how fast they’re moving when they hit the line. Soon you have lots of ‘musical’ sounds playing as you continue drawing lines to catch and deflect the bouncing balls. You can also control some thing by keyboard such as deleting lines and clearing your balls!

It’s an unusual game: ‘experiment in sound’ depending on your perspective of this kinda thing, but amusing and strangely addictive for at least a few minutes!

Drop over to here for further info and to download it.
