You can even extend the program with low cost modules for customer database, products database, invoice archive and so on. Sunday, December 31st, 2006

homepage2-small.jpgThere’s a lot of RSS reader programs around. Here’s one that caught my attention. It’s called GreatNews and has an impressive array of features. GreatNews is optimized for the fast and efficient reading of all your favorite web feeds. You can choose from various different view styles, including a newspaper view, that one allows you to read a group of feeds arranged in newspaper-style page layout without the hassle of having to click through individual feed items.

It also supports custom labels, email and blog integration as well as custom keyword alerts (news watches) so you can automatically find articles of interest to you and have them available in a special category. Other features include import/export feeds from/to OPML and XML files, the automatic cleanup of old items, browser integration with popup blocking and more.

GreatNews is a small, fast and very efficient RSS reader – it doesn’t require any installation either, so just unzip and run.

This is one good RSS reader worth grabbing while it’s still freeware and you can do that right here.

WordOMatic 1.2.5 – A Cool Word Search Puzzle Game

Monday, December 25th, 2006

1043273886-1.jpgWord search games make good learning and fun tools. If you a re a fan of word search games, then you might enjoy this one, WordOMatic.

WordOMatic is a word search game with elements of puzzle and strategy. You are expected to rearrange letters to form words which are then replaced with fresh letters. To make it more interesting as letters grow old, they change color. The object of the game is to use all available letters before they become void. This is an original game belonging to the Word Search genre which includes games like Scrabble, Boggle, and Jumble as well as modern PC games like Bookworm and Text Twist.

WordOMatic is not only an easy game to play, it’s also a good way to learn. The game knows over forty thousand words from three to six letters. You get bonus points for using longer words, and for avoiding repeated words. Like I said it’s real cool way to learn and have fun at the same time. Yeah it is! It knows more than eight hundred words containing the letter X.

The only thing that might be an issue for you about this game is its price. It’s a shareware that costs $19.95. But you can check out the trial version and see if it is worth it. Check it out HERE!

Never be lost for WordWeb

Saturday, December 23rd, 2006

If you like words, I dunno you’re a crossword person or something, then you need WordWeb. WordWeb is a quick and powerful international English thesaurus and dictionary for Windows, which can be accessed to look up words from almost any program running on Windows, showing definitions, synonyms and related words. It also like any good dictionary includes pronunciations and usage, and spelling and my favorite “sounds-like” links for when you have a senior moment and look up the wrong word but it sounds the same.

The downloadable WordWeb is a free cut-down version of the Pro version of the software. It includes a comprehensive English thesaurus and dictionary, includes definitions and synonyms, proper nouns, related words, and pronunciations. The program features over 140 000 words, with around 115 000 synonyms, and allows you to look up words in almost any program simply and quickly. Apparently “millions of people from all over the world use this top-rated software“. News to me. This is the first I’ve heard of it. Sounds very cool though.

Hott Notes: Make a note of it!

Wednesday, November 29th, 2006

notes_splash.jpgSticky note paper is a popular way of taking down reminders, shopping lists, to-do lists, etc. Some people even ‘borrow’ some from work and use them for posting notes on the fridge freezer. The bright yellow pad enables us to quickly see a reminder note.

Hott Notes is a free tool that enables you to write and place sticky-type notes on your desktop (ok, not the actual top of your desk, but on your screen, that thing you’re looking at now). You can use these notes in the usual manner – reminders, lists and more. The notes can be displayed in various translucent colors, so that you can use one color for reminders, another for business notes and one for home-related reminders.

You can even draw or write freehand on them!

Unlike the ‘borrowed’ from work sticky note paper, Hott Notes really is free and you can get it here with more info and here’s some screenshots.

MouseAway: Get that mouse away!

Tuesday, November 28th, 2006

animation.gifMouseAway is a simple and very small program that you may find useful. It simply moves your mouse cursor out of the way if you’re typing, so that you don’t have to manually move it yourself each time.

It’s a pretty basic program that only does exactly as it says. The upside to it being so small and basic means it takes up very little memory. So if this is an minor annoyance for you, having to move the mouse cursor out of the way every time you type, then maybe it’s worth trying out!

(If its a major one, you really need to chill out a little!)

It’s freeware and you can download it from the homepage right here!

Sticky Password – The Unique Password Manager

Monday, November 27th, 2006

ytrtreryerter.jpgRemembering your passwords for different logins is not an easy task when there are so many of them. But a handy tool has just been released that can help you accomplish this with ease.

Sticky Password automatically fills login and password fields in web forms and usual dialog windows. With its unique “Sticky Button” which appears on any window that it has password saved for, you get to do this with ease. I love the fact that there is a backup feature that keeps all passwords safely stored until the need arises for them.

Sticky Password also allows you to have multiple logins and passwords for a single account.

This software is a shareware, there is a trial version available but the full version costs about $24.95. But in case you are wondering what the big deal is about this software, there are so many others out there that are even free. Right? What makes it different from others is that unlike other password managers that are just used to keep and recall passwords, Sticky Password integrates password management features to any program on your computer.

Some of the key features of Sticky Password:

    • The Password Protector is the most innovative and unique feature that prevents password theft. Learn more about password protector and anti-phishing.
    • Portable Version allows you to always keep passwords in your hand. Sticky Password can run from any portable device – USB drive or even CD.
    • Alternate authentication methods allow you to use any USB or Bluetooth device to unlock Sticky Password. Now you don’t need to type any passwords at all!
    • The password storage database is protected with strong encryption algorithms that make it impossible to decrypt it in any acceptable amount of time. Learn more about password storage
    • The form filler works for usual programs as well as web pages. Password, login and other fields are filled automatically only when you need it. Learn more about form filler
    • Multiple logins and passwords are supported for a single account etc.

Click here to check out the trial version and for more info. NOTE: the trial version has a 30-day time out
