Spy Sweeper – Safeguard your PC

Tuesday, May 15th, 2007

http://www.webroot.com/images/logo_ongrn_ss52_new.gifIf you own a computer, chances are you have heard about spyware/adware by now. If you haven’t, chances are you have some on your computer, in which case you should really check out an anti-adware/spyware scanner.

Spy Sweeper is such a scanner, one with a very good reputation too! It also detects keyloggers and root kits and has multiple real-time Smart Shields to block sophisticated spyware threats before they can infect your PC. Spy Sweeper earns points by doing a fairly decent job of removing spyware with a user friendly interface, it’s easy to use, and has regular updates for paid subscribers.

It’s still recommended you run more than one scanner though, as they can’t all catch everything. But this definitely seems to be one of the best ones currently available. Check it out here where you can grab the trial version.

#Calculation Component

Monday, May 14th, 2007

leftlogo.jpgTired of your regular boring basic Microsoft Calculator utility? Though it suffices to most users, some require that extra calculating power in the digital versions of their traditional calculators.

#Calculation Component is a versatile powerful calculation tool which integrates expression parsing and evaluation into your applications through an ActiveX component. The real power of #Calculation Component is seen in areas where the user is required to define a formula of his own which would then be used in calculation, and in areas where more than one formula are required to be defined and executed in real time.

#Calculation Component’s appetite for numbers is huge – it supports your regular mathematics, and then various functions, string, date, time, logical operators, and even matrix and array operations. And if that was not enough, various numerical systems, comments, and custom functions are also supported. The latest version has added some new features while ironing out some bugging bugs.

With such power to boot, you must be expecting a multi-MB download, right? There lies the catch – the download is just 522.5KB. Who says good things don’t come in small packages?

Mobile AMR converter

Monday, May 14th, 2007

msofr.jpgYou may be having the swankiest cell phone on the planet – but that MMS you are sending to your friend – he may not be equally blessed. You send him a ring tone in .wav format or .mp3 format, while he may be having support for only AMR. So what do we do?

We download a nice little utility from Miksoft called Mobile AMR Converter. As the name suggests, this program converts .mp3 and .wav into AMR, and presently has support to convert .wav back to AMR. The software can also save several SP files into one. The program is strikingly easy to use and a novice gets accustomed to it very easily – after all, there are not many options to meddle with. AMR is the format of choice while MMSing, as it ensures compatibility; and here we have a program which does the job of conversion from the ubiquitous MP3 and WAV to AMR.

AudioCommander – Take control of your sound files

Monday, May 14th, 2007

ac1.gifAudioCommander is an audio conversion program that lets you convert various audio formats to CD, WAV, MP3, WMA, OGG, AAC, AC3, AMR, 3GP, AIFF, AU, VOX, RAW, GSM, ADPCM, A-LAW, u-LAW, g726, g721, g723, MPC, MP+, MOV, QT, AVI audio, etc.

One good use is that it makes conversions for cell phone audio files a quick and easy thing to do, or you might want to change the bitrate of some mp3 files to save some space on your mp3 player.

The program offers the usual options for bitrate, frequency, channels, and other such format specific settings, and can convert individual sound files, or even entire folders of sound files at once. Conversions are performed directly from format to format, which increases conversion speed and eliminates potential quality loss.

A cool feature for the paranoid is the file “Bleaching” for added Security: Window Washer can completely overwrite files with random characters making them unrecoverable by undelete / unerase utilities — a security feature which “exceeds the tough standards of the United States Department of Defense.”

It can be set to run automatically for example each time you shut down or start up your computer. It also has a cookie keeper feature that allows you to save chosen cookies from useful sites you use while erasing all other cookies. Hundreds of Free Plug-ins are available to cleanup the junk files of a lot of popular applications. It also supports most major browsers.
